Osinbajo absent as APC flags off presidential campaign in Jos

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday refused to attend the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally.

The rally, according to the APC Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, was to present the party’s flag to its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, who said he gave out his slot to be Buhari’s running mate to Osinbajo.

While President Muhammadu Buhari is present at the rally but the Vice President Osinbajo is nowhere to be found.

Aside from Buhari and Tinubu other party chieftains present include the Vice Presidential Candidate, Kashim Shettima,  APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; APC serving governors including Plateau State Governor and the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Simon Lalong.

Armed members of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Road Safety Corps were seen at different spots at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.

Supporters of the ruling party’s candidate and his running mate were also seen with clothes emblazoned with the faces of Tinubu and Shettima.

It is not immediately clear why the Vice President is not at the campaign rally held in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Many had a few weeks ago raised concerns over why Osinbajo is not a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council headed by President Buhari.

It was rumoured that Osinbajo had deliberately distanced himself from Tinubu’s campaign committee for reasons best known to him.

It is being said that Osinbajo is still bitter over his loss of the APC presidential primary election to Tinubu.

According to the calendar, following Tuesday’s flag-off in Jos, the APC presidential campaign train will move across the country and end with another rally in Lagos on February 13, 2023.

Tinubu is in the race for Aso Rock’s top job alongside frontline candidates including Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
