2021 Election: Anambra deputy governor dumps APGA, joins APC

Ahead of the November 6 governorship election of Anambra State, the deputy governor of Anambra State, Nkem Okeke, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after dumping the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Newsflash Nigeria understands that Nkem Okeke defected to the Federal ruling party at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Okeke was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari by Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni and Hope Uzodinma, the Imo State Governor.

This development is coming less than a month to the November 6 governorship election in Anambra.

APGA is the ruling party in Anambra State.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, Uzodinma said there will be more defections to the ruling party before the upcoming governorship election in the state.

The governor, however, faulted that claims by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra that members of the State House of Assembly who defected from APGA were financially induced to join APC.

Uzodinma stressed that rather than enticing the lawmakers with money, they were lobbied through persuasion and counselling.

According to multiple reports, Okeke decided to dump APGA and join the APC as a mark of protest against the neglect he has faced in the last four years in office.

It was learned that the state governor allegedly sidelined Okeke and decided to run the administration with his wife.

The deputy governor was said to have been overlooked during the formation of the APGA governorship campaign council in the state and was not informed of the campaign flag-off which took place last month.

It was gathered that all his entitlements and allowances have been allegedly seized by the governor.
