YouTube Takes Down TB Joshua’s Synagogue Channel Amidst Controversy

In a startling move, the American social media giant YouTube has removed the primary channel of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) from its platform. This development unfolds amidst the backdrop of sexual assault allegations against the late founder of the church, TB Joshua.

The channel in question, Emmanuel TV, served as a broadcasting platform for the religious activities of the church. Following Joshua’s passing on June 5, 2021, the church became the focus of a groundbreaking investigation by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), generating widespread internet discussions and diverse opinions.

YouTube cited a violation of its hate speech policies as the reason behind the termination of the flagged channel. The platform has stringent policies against cyberbullying, harassment, and, specifically, harassment against survivors of sexual violence.

In parallel developments, Emmanuel TV, owned by SCOAN, has made a significant decision to withdraw from MultiChoice platforms, including DStv and GOtv. MultiChoice has confirmed that starting from January 17, 2024, Emmanuel TV will no longer be available on DStv and GOtv packages.

Established by TB Joshua in 2006, Emmanuel TV gained immense popularity and expanded its reach through its YouTube channel, becoming one of the most subscribed Christian ministry channels globally.

As controversy swirls around SCOAN, YouTube’s removal of the main channel and the withdrawal from MultiChoice platforms mark pivotal moments in the ongoing narrative, raising questions about the intersection of online platforms, religious organizations, and the challenges posed by allegations of misconduct. Stay tuned for further developments in this evolving story.
