The Yoruba movie industry has lost another veteran actor, Prince Adewale Adeyemo, who passed away on Monday morning following a short illness.
His death was confirmed by his colleague, Kunle Afod, who took to his Instagram page to share a photo of the late actor and pay tribute to him.
He wrote, “Hmmmm God you know best RIP Prince Adewale Adeyemo.
“He left us early hours of today after a brief illness. God will comfort all his family, friends and colleagues.”
The sad news came just hours after the Yoruba movie industry held a night of tribute for late Murphy Afolabi, who died on May 14, 2023.
However, his health deteriorated again in 2023 and he was admitted to a hospital in Lagos. He passed away on Monday morning, leaving behind his wife and four children.
Adeyemo, who was popularly known as Prince Adewale, started his acting career in the 1980s and featured in many Yoruba movies and TV series. He was known for his comic roles and his mastery of the Yoruba language and culture.
Some of his notable works include Omo Ghetto, Omo Iya Awusa, Omo Alhaja, Omo Oluweri, and others. He also produced and directed some movies, such as Omo Oba Adeyemi, Omo Aje, and Omo Eko.
He was a recipient of several awards and recognitions, such as the Best Comic Actor at the City People Movie Awards in 2019 and the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Yoruba Movie Academy Awards in 2020.
He will be buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday at his hometown in Oyo State.
