Woman arrested for brutalizing her aged mother
A 50-year-old woman, Ukamaka Udeugbo, has been arrested by the police in Anambra State for allegedly flogging and kicking her 75-year-old mother, as seen in a viral video.
The video, which has sparked outrage on social media, shows Udeugbo beating her mother, whom she accused of defecating in the house, with a stick and throwing buckets of water on her while she was lying on the floor.
The incident occurred at Umudunu village, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest of Udeugbo and said she would be prosecuted.
Ikenga said: “Operatives attached to Abagana Division have rescued the aged woman being cruelly treated by another woman at Umudunu village, Abagana. She has been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
“The suspect, Ukamaka Udeugbo, 50, turned out to be her biological daughter in a video clip that went viral. The suspect who flogged the naked, aged woman repeatedly and threw buckets of water on her while she was lying on the floor has been arrested and detained for prosecution.
“Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye has directed the transfer of the case to the State CID in the public interest and has authorised that the aged woman be handed to the Commissioner for Women Affairs for adequate care by the state government. The suspect is to be arraigned in court at the end of the investigation.”
