WAEC Releases Nov/Dec 2017 GCE Results, 26% Passed English Language and Mathematics

WAEC GCE result statistics have been announced.34,664 candidates, representing 26.01%, obtained credits in five (5) subjects & above, including English Language & Mathematics.

The results of 14,756 private candidates, out of the 133,223 who sat for the 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), have been withheld due to examination malpractice.

Mr. Olu Adenipekun, Head of National Office (HNO) of the WAEC, stated this while announcing the release of the results in a briefing in Katsina.

135,945 candidates registered for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2017, while 133,223 candidates sat the examination.

131,485 candidates, representing 98.70% have their results fully processed and released. 67,279 were male and 65,944 were female representing 50.50% and 49.50 % respectively.

1,738 candidates, representing 1.30% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some errors mainly traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination. Such errors are being corrected by the Council to enable the affected candidates to get their results fully processed & released.

Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 111, 763 candidates, representing 85.89% obtained credits and above in two subjects; 98, 506 candidates, representing 73.94% obtained credits and above in three subjects; 83,256 candidates, representing 62. 49% obtained credits and above in four subjects; 65, 483 candidates, representing 49.15%obtained credits and above in five subjects; 46,824 candidates, representing 35.14% obtained credits and above in six.

A total of 34, 664 candidates, representing 26.01%, obtained the minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English language and General Mathematics. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for private candidates in 2015 and 2016 was 28.595 and 38.50%, respectively.

 

The results of 14,756 candidates, representing 11.07% of the total candidature for the examination are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.

The cases are being investigated & reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the Council in due course for consideration.

The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates thereafter Candidates who sat the examination are no free to check the details of their performance on the Council’s results website.
