A shocking video has surfaced online showing the moment when the Department of State Services, DSS, arrested Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that Emefiele was first suspended by President Bola Tinubu on Friday before his arrest on the same day.
Emefiele was ordered to hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.
It will be recalled that the DSS had made unsuccessful attempts to arrest Emefiele early this year.
Since then, the DSS had intensified its investigations in order to arrest and prosecute him.
His offense borders on allegations of terrorism financing and fraud.
In the video, Emefiele could be seen wearing a black native attire and matching cap as he steps out of a Hilux van and is escorted towards a waiting private jet at the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos.
Emefiele is a Nigerian politician, economist and banker who served as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 4 June 2014 until his suspension by President Bola Tinubu, on 9 June 2023.
He is a native of Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria and an alumnus of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Stanford University, Harvard University and Wharton School of Business.
He was previously the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc.
