Three traditional rulers from the Oriire local government area in the Ogbomoso geo-political zone, Oyo State, lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Friday.
The accident occurred at Arinkinkin area Ogbomoso when the vehicle conveying the monarchs collided with an oncoming truck.
The deceased monarchs were identified as Olodogbo of Odogbo, Onibowula of Bowula, and Alayetoro of Ayetoro, all from Oriire local government.
They were on their way to attend the funeral of a relative of one of their colleagues in the zone, Oloolo of Oolo Oba Oyebunmi Ajayi.
Sources told Newsflash Nigeria that the impact of the crash killed the monarchs instantly and left their vehicles badly damaged.
Four people were involved in the accident, and the fourth person who sustained injury is currently receiving treatment at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
A source at the hospital confirmed the incident to Newsflash Nigeria, saying that the remains of the monarchs have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
The source also revealed that the hospital authorities have contacted the families of the deceased and the state government to inform them of the tragedy.
The accident has thrown the Oriire local government and the Ogbomoso zone into mourning, as the monarchs were respected and revered in their communities. The state government and the traditional council are yet to issue official statements on the incident.
