Tinubu Steps in to Resolve Rivers Impeachment Saga

President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the ongoing political and security crisis in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara is facing an impeachment threat by some lawmakers.

The president met with Fubara and his former ally and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the Police Council meeting on Tuesday, and urged them to bury their hatchet and work together for the peace and stability of the state.

The impeachment plot against Fubara, who is a member of the PDP, is allegedly masterminded by Wike, who is accused of using a faction of the state House of Assembly to destabilize the governor’s administration.

The president, who is also the leader of the APC, expressed his concern over the security situation in Rivers State, and appealed to both parties to respect the rule of law and the will of the people.

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who is the chairman of the PDP-GF, confirmed the president’s intervention while speaking to journalists after the meeting at the State House, Abuja.

He said that despite their differences, Fubara and Wike greeted each other cordially at the meeting, and agreed to cooperate with the president’s efforts to resolve the crisis.

He also said that the PDP governors have decided to work with the president because he has demonstrated his impartiality and respect for democracy by not meddling with the judicial processes involving PDP governors.
