Tinubu Sends 19 More Names to Senate for Ministerial Confirmation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a second list of 19 ministerial nominees to the Senate for approval. This comes after he sent the first batch of 28 names last week.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, read out the names of the nominees during the plenary session on Wednesday. He said the screening of the nominees would commence on Thursday.

Some of the notable names on the second list are Ahmed Gwarzo, a former governor of Kano State; Bello Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara State; Ibrahim Gaidam, a former governor of Yobe State; and Simon Lalong, the former governor of Plateau State.

Other nominees are Adegboyega Oyetola, the former governor of Osun State; Lola Ade-John, a renowned lawyer and human rights activist; Abdullahi Aliyu, a former minister of state for health; and Abubakar Audu, a former minister of state for works.

The rest of the nominees are Ahmed Tijjani, Bosun Tijjani, Dr Maryam Shetti, Ishak Salako, Tunji Alausa, Tanko Sununu, Atiku Bagudu, Shuaibu Abubakar, Tahir Mamman, Aliyu Sabi, Alkali Ahmed, Heineken Lokpobiri, Uba Maigari, and Zephaniah Jissalo.

The second list of nominees reflects Tinubu’s intention to form an inclusive and diverse cabinet that represents all regions and interests in the country. He has also promised to appoint more women and youths into his government.

The nominees are expected to be screened by the Senate Committee on Screening and Appointments before they can be confirmed by the full Senate.

The submission of the second list of ministerial nominees brings the total number of nominees to 47. Tinubu had sent 28 names to the Senate last week.

The nominees are expected to help Tinubu in his quest to fulfill his campaign promises and to deliver on his vision for Nigeria.
