Three persons were lucky to escape being lynched by an angry mob in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, after they were falsely accused of stealing male organs from unsuspecting victims.
The incident, which occurred at Tanke/Oke-Odo area of Ilorin metropolis, was one of the three cases of false alarm raised by some mischievous elements between Monday, July 17 and Thursday, July 20, 2023.
According to a statement by the spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the three persons who were accused of being organ snatchers were taken to the hospital for medical examination and were found to have their private organs intact.
He said that the police intervened swiftly and rescued them from the mob that was about to lynch them.
He also said that the police arrested seven suspects in connection with the false alarm and jungle justice.
He said that they included one person who raised the false alarm and six others who participated in the attack on the innocent persons. He said that they have been charged to court for their criminal acts.
The statement further said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, warned the public to desist from such fake alarm and jungle justice, which are punishable by law. He also advised the people to be vigilant and report any suspicious incident to the police, rather than taking the law into their own hands.
He said that the police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the state, and urged the people to cooperate with them in maintaining law and order.
