Three Men in Court for Allegedly Stealing Pumping Machine worth N40,000 in Ekiti

The police in Ekiti State have arraigned three men before a chief magistrate court in Ado Ekiti for allegedly stealing a pumping machine worth N40,000 from a woman. The suspects are Buhari Ibrahim, 18, Muniru Yahaya, 20, and Rufai Isiaka, 20.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leramo, the trio stole the pumping machine belonging to one Modupe Oso on July 18 at about 11:40 a.m. at the Tinuola Area in Ado Ekiti.

He said the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, which prescribes a maximum of seven years imprisonment for anyone convicted of stealing.

Leramo asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge and their counsel, Mr Sunday Balogun, requested the court to grant them bail, promising that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N20,000 with one surety each in like sum. He adjourned the case till August 28 for hearing.

The case is one of the many reported cases of theft and robbery in Ekiti State, which has been grappling with security challenges in recent times. The state government has been working with the security agencies to curb the menace and restore peace and order in the state.
