South West PDP Congress: Voting commences as 104 delegates accredited in Ekiti against expected 115
In the ongoing South-West congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Women and Children Development Initiative Foundation (WOCDIF) Centre, Iwo Road, Osogbo, Osun State capital, some delegates from Ekiti State were absent.
Out of the expected number of 115 delegates from Ekiti State, 104 delegates were accredited and have begun casting their ballots.
Voting began at 4.30 pm, with delegates from Ekiti State taking the lead, ex-governor of Ekiti, Segun Oni, casting his vote first.
The candidates were told to line up as they were given ballot papers to cast their votes.
After Ekiti State, delegates from Lagos State are expected to follow as Chairman, Electoral/Congress committee, Mr Benson Abounu, had announced that voting will be in alphabetical order of states.
Lagos State will be followed by Ogun, Ondo, Osun with delegates from Oyo State to vote last.
42 aspirants were cleared by the PDP screening committee on Sunday to contest for the various positions in the zone.
The congress would be attended by 734 delegates across the six states of the zone.
According to the list released by Retired Col. Austin Akobundu, the PDP National Organising Secretary, Oyo has 171 delegates, Osun – 130, Lagos 101, Ogun- 112, Ondo 114, and Ekiti with 115 delegates.
