South-West mourns as prominent political leader, Akinfenwa dies at 89

Senator Mojisola Akinfenwa, a former Alliance for Democracy (AD) national chairman, has died at the age of 89.

The demise was confirmed by a former AD chairman in Osun state, Hon Oladape Fakunle, who said Akinfenwa enjoyed good health till his final moment, Tribune reports.

Newsflash247 gathered that the deceased, an indigene of Osun state, died in his home in Ibadan, Oyo state on Thursday, October 3.

Fakunle said: “To us, his complaint wasn’t seen as anything serious as he was not used to falling sick. Once he treats malaria, he gets back on his feet.

“But, sadly, while he was observing his bed rest at home, and we expected him to be back, he died in his home, on Thursday.”

Speaking further about the deceased, Fakunle said: “He was a founding member of Alliance for Democracy; he joined no other political party.

“Being a committed follower of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, he was a principled man and remained so till his death. His kind of leader is rare, we will surely miss him.”

He also described Akinfenwa as “a great leader, who lived an exemplary life as a father and politician.”

Senator Akinfenwa is survived by his children and other members of his family. His remains have been deposited at Wesley Hospital and burial plans will be announced later.
