Soldiers, Policemen Clash Over Arrest of Female Drug Dealer in Ogun
A clash between soldiers and policemen occurred on Sunday in Arepo town, Ogun State, when the soldiers prevented the policemen from arresting a woman suspected of selling illicit drugs.
The woman, whose name was withheld, was caught with various kinds of drugs in her shop by the policemen from Warewa station in the Obafemi Owode LGA of the state.
Newsflash Nigeria learned that the soldiers, who were described as “friends and customers” of the woman, intervened and stopped the policemen from taking her to the station.
The soldiers reportedly cocked their guns and threatened to shoot the policemen, who also cocked their rifles in response. The standoff lasted for about two hours and caused panic in the community.
A source who witnessed the incident told SaharaReporters that the woman was well-known in the area as a drug dealer. Her shop was used as a depot for drugs such as Colorado, Cocaine, Canadian loud, skuchies, etc. The source said that the soldiers were regular patrons of the woman and came to her rescue after they got wind of the police raid.
“They beat the police and stopped them from taking her away. There was a serious confrontation between the two agencies that lasted for about 2 hours. It caused a commotion in the community”, the source said.
The woman was eventually released by the soldiers and returned to her shop to continue her business.
The Ogun State Police Command has not yet commented on the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola said that she was not aware of the incident. “I am not aware, I’m so sorry”, she said.
