The residents, who trooped out in their large numbers chanted solidarity songs across the town before they besieged the Owa Oroo of Abbado’s palace and chased away the regent and other people with stone.

Giving the reason for taking the action, the chairman of kingmakers in Agbado Ekiti, Chief Bello Kareem, High Chief Awomilusi and Alhaji Oguntuase Yusuf said that the regent was installed by one person out of the sixteen kingmakers in the town.

Others who spoke, including Dr. Olusoji Isaac and Mr. Odesanmi Adeola, described the installation of the regent as unconstitutional, saying due process was not taken into consideration while installing her as the regent of the town.

When contacted, the state’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ayodeji Alabi said the government was not aware of the installation of the regent in the town and condemned those who chased away the regent out of the palace, saying that it was wrong for them to take laws into their hands
