Police Launches 13-Man Team To Investigate Mohbad’s Death, Interpol to Assist

The Lagos State Police Command has set up a 13-member special investigation team to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known as MohBad.

The state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, said on Monday that the team would work with INTERPOL to identify and track down anyone linked to the death of the talented artiste.

“We have unique access with INTERPOL. Everybody linked to it (the death of Mohbad) will be identified and they will be brought to establish their level of involvement,” Owohunwa said.

MohBad, who was a former signee of Marlian Records owned by Azeez Faashola, aka Naira Marley, died last Tuesday at the age of 27. The cause of his death is still unknown.

Naira Marley, who was devastated by the news of MohBad’s death, described him as “more than an artiste or signee but brother and dear friend” to him.

He said this in a statement he posted on his Instagram handle last Friday night, on behalf of the Marlian Record label.

“From inception, we recognised Mohbad was a force to be reckoned with. His music gave so many people love and light. Mohbad touched us all with his heartfelt lyrics, story telling, infectious smile and energy. The news of his passing has left us with a permanent hole in our hearts,” part of the statement read.

He also shared a video of the late singer on his Instagram handle, with the caption, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Rest in perfect peace my broski . I’m shattered #Imole’sWorld . Got u forever bro.”

Mohbad was known for his hit songs such as “Ko Por Ke”, “Ponmo Sweet”, “Sorry” and “Feel Good”. He was also nominated for several awards, including the Headies Next Rated category in 2022. He will be greatly missed by his fans and colleagues in the music industry.
