PHOTOS: Atiku Meets Babangida, Abdulsalami In Minna
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday met with former military President, Gen Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) and former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) in Minna, Niger State.
The meeting with the two leaders was held behind closed doors.
It was gathered that Journalists were barred from getting close to the venue of the meeting.
Atiku, who is the People’s Democratic Party,(PDP) Presidential flag bearer in the February 25 Presidential election All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission,(INEC), said to have arrived the Minna International Airport around 2 pm with some of his top aides and were driven straight to the Uphill resident of the former Military President.
Our Correspondent was told that the two leaders went into a closed-door meeting that lasted for over one hour.
Those on the entourage could be ascertained and cannot exactly say whether they were part of the private meeting or exclusive for only the two leaders.
Details of the discussion were not made public but our Correspondent reliably gathered that the visit may be an opportunity for the PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku to brief General Babangida on the outcome of the election and seek his opinion on the way forward.
Though, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe however said that the meeting was fruitful.
Babangida is a founding member of the Party. Atiku and the Party in the absence of General Babangida have concluded plans to challenge the election result at the Tribunal.
It would be recalled that Babangida left Nigeria for Germany in January and returned to the country only last week thereby didn’t partake in the election.
Already, General Babangida had sent a congratulatory message to APC candidate and winner, Bola Tinubu over his victory at the Polls and described the victory as “a New Dawn for Nigeria”.
After Atiku met the two leaders in Minna, he moved to Yola, Adamawa State ahead of the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly election on Saturday, March 11.
The former Vice President urged his supporters to come out en masse to vote for his party in the March 11th governorship election held across Nigeria.
The Waziri of Adamawa State made this known in a statement to journalists on Wednesday.
The former Vice President maintained that the result of the February 25 presidential election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was grossly tainted and did not reflect the will of the electorates.
According to him, the electoral fraud perpetrated by INEC will be reversed in due course.
