PDP Governors Rally Behind Fubara Amid Impeachment Threat

In a show of solidarity, governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Abuja on Tuesday to discuss the political crisis in Rivers State, where Governor Sim Fubara is facing an impeachment plot by some lawmakers.

The emergency meeting, which was held at the Oyo State Governors Lodge, was attended by 10 PDP governors and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by Acting Chairman Iliya Damagum.

According to Newsflash Nigeria, some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly had attempted to impeach Fubara between Sunday night and Monday morning, accusing him of gross misconduct and abuse of power.

However, Fubara, who was elected on the platform of the PDP, has denied the allegations and vowed to resist any attempt to remove him from office.

The PDP governors, who expressed their support for Fubara, condemned the impeachment move as a ploy to destabilize the state and undermine the party’s unity.

They also called on the federal government and security agencies to ensure the safety of Fubara and other PDP members in Rivers State.

The meeting was part of the efforts of the PDP to resolve the internal conflicts within the party and prepare for the 2024 general elections.
