A pastor, Abiodun Sunday, has been arrested by the Ekiti State Police Command for allegedly strangling his wife, Tosin Oluwadare, to death in Ido-Ile town in Ekiti West Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The police spokesman, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest and said that the suspect is in custody and that the investigation is ongoing.
According to sources, the pastor, who was a former herbalist, was posted to a Christ Apostolic Church in Ori-Oke, Ido Mountain, Ekiti West, where he had been expelled before he committed the heinous crime.
The deceased’s step-brother, Samuel Ibironke, accused the pastor of killing his sister and calling his wife, who is a health worker, to help him, only to discover that he had strangled her to death.
The pastor was reportedly caught with the corpse on his way out of the town by some residents who alerted the police.
The traditional ruler of the community, Oba Aderemi Obaleye, condemned the murder and said that it almost caused a riot in the town as the youths protested against the pastor.
He said, “It is a very sad development which nearly set the town on fire because the youths went on a rampage in protest against the so-called pastor.
“I want the authorities to investigate the matter and bring the culprit to book so as to serve as a deterrent to others.”
