Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared his wish for how he would like to die at the RCCG Holy Ghost Congress in Ogun state.
The event, which is a week-long spiritual gathering of RCCG members and guests, was held from December 4 to December 10, 2023.
Speaking on the third day of the congress, Pastor Adeboye said that he would like to die without stress or sickness, and preferably on a Sunday after a special meal of pounded yam.
He narrated how his uncle passed away peacefully in the toilet after returning from church and having a light breakfast.
He said, “I know somebody will say, well, if we are never sick, then how are we ever going to die and go to Heaven? You don’t need to be sick to go to Heaven.
“An uncle of mine woke up on a Thanksgiving Sunday, went to Church, danced like everybody else, came home, the wife gave him a light breakfast before preparing the original food – pounded yam.
“She was already pounding the yam when my uncle decided to go to the toilet. After she finished pounding, she knocked at the door of the toilet; when they opened the door, my uncle was gone.
“No sickness, no ache, no pain. If the Lord tarries His Coming, I will go on a Sunday after a good meal of pounded yam.”
Pastor Adeboye also prayed that everyone listening to him would die peacefully without any sickness or illness.
He said that death was inevitable for everyone, but that God could determine the time and manner of one’s departure. He encouraged the congregation to live a holy and righteous life, and to be ready for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Adeboye, who is 81 years old, has been the general overseer of RCCG since 1981.
RCCG is one of the largest Pentecostal churches in Nigeria and the world, with branches in over 190 countries.
Pastor Adeboye is widely respected and admired by his millions of followers, who call him “Daddy GO” (Daddy General Overseer). He is also known for his teachings on prosperity, healing, and miracles.
