A Benue Links bus carrying passengers to Otukpo was ambushed by gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at Tyolaha village along Naka road in Gwer West LGA of Benue State.
Newsflash Nigeria gathered that one passenger lost his life and several others sustained injuries from the attack. The attackers, who were about 15 in number, overpowered their victims and fled the scene without any resistance.
Tyolaha village has been a frequent target of violent attacks by suspected herdsmen in the past.
The insecurity situation has forced many residents and farmers to abandon their homes and farms in that area. They have appealed to the government and security agencies to intervene and restore peace.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the attack and said that three persons, including women, were wounded and one person died. The Police Public Relations Officer, Anekwe Catherine, told Newsflash Nigeria that the bus belonged to Benue Links and was heading to Otukpo when it was attacked by unknown gunmen.
She said that the police were investigating the incident and would bring the perpetrators to justice.
