Man Jailed for One Year for Threatening Ex-Girlfriend and Damaging Her Phone
A 31-year-old man, Kefas Usman, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by a Grade I Area Court in Kabusa, Abuja, for intimidating his ex-girlfriend and causing mischief.
The court also gave him an option of paying N20,000 fine.
The judge, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, delivered the verdict on Thursday after Usman pleaded guilty to the three counts of criminal intimidation, causing mischief and escape from lawful custody. He also begged the court for mercy.
According to the Prosecution Counsel, S. O. Osho, Usman harassed and threatened his former girlfriend, Eunice Samuel, after she decided to end their relationship.
He said that Usman also destroyed her cellphone worth N36,000 during an argument with her.
Osho further said that Usman was arrested by the police for his offences, but he managed to escape from custody and was later re-arrested.
He said that Usman’s actions violated the provisions of sections 397 and 326 of the Penal Code.
