Man Hangs Himself After Wife Donated Their Entire Earnings To Church

A 45-year-old man named Rex Kondwani ended his life in a shocking way after a family feud over money in Thyolo District, Malawi.

The incident happened on September 6, 2023, in Muwalo village, where Mr. Kondwani and his wife lived and worked as gardeners.

According to Senior Superintendent George Kaleso, the officer-in-charge of Masambanjati police, the couple had earned K12,000 from their gardening work. However, when Mr. Kondwani asked for his share of the money, his wife told him that she had given it all to their local church.

This angered Mr. Kondwani, who felt betrayed by his wife’s decision. The two had a heated argument that escalated into a bitter conflict.

Sadly, this conflict led to a tragic outcome. Mr. Kondwani was found hanging from the roof of the same church that his wife had donated the money to.

This horrifying incident shows the terrible effects that financial disputes can have on people’s lives and mental health. It also reveals the growing problem of suicide in Malawi, where 256 cases were reported in the first six months of the year. This is a worrying trend that calls for urgent action and intervention.

The case of Rex Kondwani is a sad reminder of the need to address the root causes of suicide and provide mental health support and awareness to the people of Malawi.

It also highlights the importance of fostering healthy communication and conflict resolution skills among families and communities. By doing so, we can prevent such tragic events from happening again and promote mental well-being for all.
