Low Turnout As Akwa Ibom APC Suspends Membership Registration

The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State has temporarily suspended the membership registration and revalidation exercise that it commenced a week ago in the state.

The suspension according to a source privy to the development was made due to low turnout.

Sources at the State APC Secretariat said that the party is disappointed at the low turnout of people to register with the party.

“It has become embarrassing that everyday registration points are opened and only very few people come out. It is a bad image for the party,” one of the sources said.

Some of the people who registered with during the exercise said they were uncomfortable with the party demanding for their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) details and number.

However, a statement signed by the Chairman, Revalidation/Registration of Membership Committee, Dr. Amadu Atai, said: “The decision is taken to ensure that the party focuses and attends to issues demanding urgent attention.

“We commend members for the supporting for the exercise thus far. A date for the recommencement of the exercise shall be communicated soon.”
