A 36-year-old minibus driver, Shonibare Oluwasegun, was allegedly killed by his landlord’s son, Taiye Adebayo, after a heated argument over parking space in the Ajah area of Lagos.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday night, November 19, 2023, at number 24 Adewunmi Close, Ilaje Ajah, where the victim lived with his wife and three children.
According to eyewitnesses, Oluwasegun had parked his minibus, popularly known as ‘korope’, in front of his apartment, which was his usual parking spot.
He had retired to bed when Adebayo knocked on his door, demanding that he move his vehicle.
Oluwasegun refused, saying that he had the right to park there. This led to a verbal exchange between the two men, which soon turned violent.
Adebayo reportedly stabbed Oluwasegun several times in different parts of his body, leaving him bleeding profusely. He then fled the scene, leaving his victim to die. Oluwasegun’s wife and neighbours rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The elder brother of the deceased, Shonibare Faid, said he received a call from a private number around 1:29 am, informing him of his brother’s death.
He said he got to Ajah by 6:20 am and saw his brother’s lifeless body in a pool of blood. He said he was shocked and devastated by the loss of his brother, who he described as a hardworking and peaceful man.
The police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who is still at large. They have also taken the corpse of the deceased to the mortuary for autopsy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
