How a Family Feud over Infidelity Led to the Death of a Deacon and Hotelier
Emekeme Joseph, a deacon of Winners Chapel and the founder and chairman of Covenant Suites, a hotel chain in Sapele, has died after a violent confrontation with his sons.
According to online reports, Joseph was caught by his sons having an affair with another woman. The sons, who graduated from Covenant University, demanded a million naira from their father to keep quiet or they would tell their mother, who was on vacation in the United States.
Joseph refused to pay and his sons exposed his infidelity to their mother, who was furious.
The next day, Joseph visited his wife’s Coca-Cola depot and was chased away by his sons.
He went back home and took away the keys of his sons’ cars, which angered them even more. They attacked him with fists and kicks. He called the police, but the sons also injured one of the policemen.
Joseph was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He was transferred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where he slipped into a coma.
His wife returned from the US and got her sons released from police custody. She also took her husband home against medical advice, where he died shortly after.
