In the early hours of Tuesday, unknown gunmen have reportedly killed five persons, including a traditional ruler in Wereng community of Riyom local government area of Plateau.

Last week, another traditional ruler in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state, Bulus Janka, was also assassinated by unknown gunmen.
The traditional ruler was reportedly killed on Monday night, September 21, at his residence in the Rasat, Foron district of Bark in Plateau.
Istifanus Gyang, a senator representing Plateau state, described the killing as inhuman, barbaric, and devilish.
In his reaction, the governor of Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, said security operatives have arrested the suspects behind the killings of the traditional ruler and another operative of the Department of State Security (DSS).
He confirmed the arrest of the suspects during a discussion with community stakeholders on Thursday, October 1.
Lalong assured the people of Plateau state that the suspects responsible for the killings would face justice.
