Fracas at Ekiti APC reconciliation meeting, State chairman, others escape death
The reconciliation meeting organised by the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) practically turned Ijero Ekiti into a battleground, following the fracas among angry members of the party.
The Ijero secretariat where the reconciliation meeting was to hold had degenerated into a battleground where the angry members sent the State Chairman, Paul Omotoso and other party members to scamper into safety.
The crisis started when the Party picked former Chief of Staff to Ex-governor Kayode Fayemi, Biodun Omoleye as the party House of Representative candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 without conducting the primary election.
The APC members of Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 comprise of Ijero, Ekiti West and Efon were refuse to support the candidacy of Biodun Omoleye.
Recall that the primary election was held for the three leading aspirants; incumbent House of Representatives, Hon Wumi Ogunlola, Dele Philip and Biodun Omoleye.
Newsflash Nigeria learnt that it was obvious that one was losing the election, and thugs were sent to disrupt the process.
The committee saddled with the responsibility of conducting the exercise cancelled the election and announced that a date would be fixed to reconduct the primary.
Surprisingly, Ekiti APC forwarded the name of Biodun Omoleye as its preferred.
All efforts to calm the incumbent House of Representatives, Hon Wumi down yielded no results as her supporters across the three local governments vowed not to work for Omoleye.
Recently, Newsflash Nigeria learnt that the campaign posters of Biodun Omoleye are being torn by APC members in Efon and Aramoko because Hon Wumi, the incumbent, was denied the second time ticket.
Biodun Omoleye will face the main opponent, Lere Olayinka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on February 25 for Presidential and National Assembly elections.
