Fayose’s car gifts for teachers’ as waste of public fund- Fayemi
Former Governor of Ekiti State and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi has described the gift of brand new cars given to Headmaster General, best teachers in Primary and Secondary schools in the State as well as the trip to London as the waste of public fund.
Fayemi insisted that “the best approach to bringing the teachers in tune with modern realities in education is through constant competency tests and not the waste of public funds on gifts to teachers.”
During this year’s World Teacher’s Day on Thursday, Governor Ayodele Fayose had presented brand new Hyundai Xcent to the best teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools as well as a brand new KIA Cerato to the new Headmaster General. The lucky teachers will also travel to London or Dubai and spend one week.
Also, Governor Fayose gave all teachers in the State a sum of N100 million, in fulfillment of his promise during the 2016 World Teacher’s Day celebration, where he vowed to give the teachers N100 million should Ekiti State be able to retain the first position in National Examination Council (NECO).
However, in his reaction to this gesture, Fayemi was said to have mocked the teachers, describing what Governor Fayose gave them as Greek gifts.
Fayemi, who was addressing some APC supporters who visited him in his Isan-Ekiti hometown this weekend asked rhetorically; “How many of the teachers got the new cars? How many of them are going to London? Of what benefit is sending local teachers to London just for sight-seeing?”
One of the APC leaders who attended the meeting told our reporter that they were shocked that Fayemi was still holding Ekiti teachers with contempt just as he did when he was governor.
The APC leader, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that Fayemi also termed Ekiti State first position in NECO in 2016 and 2017 bas mere result of high-wired manipulation by Governor Fayose.
“You can’t take anything beyond Fayomi. He could have introduced Miracle Centres or even bribe his ways into NECO to achieve that first position, which he needed to sustain his hype,” he said.
Speaking further, the APC top shot said; “Many of us were just looking at him because to him, opinions of people like us do not matter. Fayose is already capturing the minds of the teachers again and all that our own leader, Dr. Fayemi could do was to mock the teachers.
Saheed Oniloyi and Olashile Ali had reasons to rejoice at the weekend when they combined to win a
total sum of N8m (Eight million naira) with a N400 stake.
The close friends used their understanding of football bets to predict
the outcome of matches of some Europa league and some Italian football league matches.
At the end of the Europa league matches on Thursday, their tickets were confirmed
and it revealed that they have emerged as the biggest winners of the bet9ja game
show. In an interview after claiming his prize, Saheed
Oniloyi claimed that he was praying when someone beckoned on him that the game on his ticket has sealed
victory for him. “I was praying when someone told me that the last team on my ticket won their game. I was startled because I couldn’t believe that my fortune has changed. Now I am a millionaire though I have always been very lucky in all my endeavour” His friend and fellow winner of the jackpot prize Olashile Ali could not express his joy when asked about his new financial status.
“I don’t know what to say for now. I am just too happy and I cannot tell it all until I sleep over it. It’s a great day in my life” The winners
were presented with their cheque on Friday, last week
