The death of popular Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Olademeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has left his fans and family in shock and grief.
The 27-year-old artist died on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Lagos.
His father, Mr Joseph Aloba, who was with him during his last moments, has opened up about his son’s life and death in an emotional interview. He revealed that he had a disturbing dream about the singer two days before he passed away.
Mr Aloba said that he and his son were very close and that he considered him as his friend. He said that he visited him on Saturday and they had a good time together. He said that Mohbad was generous and kind to him as always.
“Mohbad is my friend. I named him Olademeji which means my second because I’m the only son of my parents.
“We are very close. Whenever he sees me, he rejoices with me. I could even remember the last time we met before his death, which was on Saturday.
“I went to his house, we played together. He gave me food. He was even the one who served me. He joined me, and we ate it together. And when I was leaving, he gave me money as usual,” he said.
However, he said that he had a bad feeling about his son after having a nightmare on Sunday night. He said that he saw someone pointing a gun at him in his dream and that he thought he was the target.
“In my dream, I saw someone who was holding a gun to shoot. In the dream, I was even thinking that maybe I escaped the bullet not knowing that something like this would happen to me,” he said.
Mr Aloba said that he was shocked when he received a call from Mohbad’s manager on Monday morning, informing him that his son had collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. He said that he hurried to the hospital and found his son unconscious.
He said that he prayed for his son’s recovery and hoped that it was not too late.
Mr Aloba said that he was told that Mohbad had a heart problem and that he was given an injection by an auxiliary nurse at his home before he collapsed.
He said that he was not sure if the injection was safe or effective and that he suspected that it might have worsened his son’s condition.
“I don’t know if she is qualified or not. I don’t know what she injected him with. Maybe it affected him negatively,” he said.
Mr Aloba said that he did not blame anyone for his son’s death and that he accepted it as God’s will. He said that he was proud of his son’s achievements and legacy in the music industry.
“Mohbad is my friend. I named him Olademeji which means my second because I’m the only son of my parents. He made me happy. He made Nigeria proud. He made Africa proud. He made the world proud,” he said.
He said that he would miss his son dearly and that he hoped that God would grant him eternal rest.
The video of Mr Aloba’s interview has gone viral on social media, with many fans expressing their condolences and sympathies to him and his family. Mohbad was buried on Wednesday in Ikorodu.
