Fatal accident claims two lives and five injuries in Akure, FRSC urges caution
Two people lost their lives and five others were injured in a motor accident that occurred on Friday in Akure, the capital of Ondo state. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident and urged motorists to drive carefully and obey traffic laws.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Ondo, Ezekiel Son Allah, said that the accident happened at about 5:48 p.m. at the Olokuta Correctional Centre area along the Akure-Ondo road.
He said that a Nissan Primera commercial vehicle with registration number FGB-96XA and a Honda Accord car with registration number MUS-834 AL collided due to speeding.
He said that six male adults and one female adult were involved in the crash. Two male adults died on the spot, while four male adults and one female adult sustained injuries.
He said that the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital morgue in Akure, while the injured were receiving treatment. He also said that the vehicles were handed over to the police for further investigation.
He appealed to motorists to always abide by the traffic rules and regulations, noting that any violator caught would be arrested and prosecuted. He also advised motorists to avoid speeding, overloading, drunk driving, and using cell phones while driving. He said that these were some of the common causes of road accidents in Nigeria.
He also encouraged motorists to follow some road safety tips such as wearing seat belts, checking vehicle condition, avoiding driving at night, and being alert and attentive on the road. He said that these tips could help prevent or reduce the severity of accidents.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He said that the FRSC was committed to ensuring safety on the roads and reducing road fatalities in Ondo state and Nigeria at large.
