El-Rufai removes two Kaduna Monarchs, three village heads over misconduct

The Kaduna State Government has announced the deposition of two traditional rulers and the disengagement of three village heads over their roles in communal clashes and illegal appointments.

The affected traditional rulers are His Highness Jonathan Paragua Zamuna, the Chief of Piriga, and His Highness General Aliyu Iliyah Yammah, the Chief of Arak.

The affected village heads are those of Aban, Abujan Mada and Anjil in Arak Chiefdom.

A statement issued by the Commissioner of Local Government, Hajiya Umma K Ahmad, on Monday said the decision was taken by Governor Nasir El-Rufai in line with the provisions of Section 11 of the Traditional Institutions Law No. 21 of 2021.

The statement said Zamuna was deposed following the recent communal clashes between the Gure and Kitimi communities of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere Local Government Area, and his non-residence within the chiefdom.

It said Yammah was deposed for appointing four district heads, contrary to the one approved for his chiefdom, and his non-residence within Arak Chiefdom.

The statement said the District Head of Garun Kurama, Mr Babangida Sule, will oversee the affairs of Piriga Chiefdom, while the Council Secretary will initiate the process for the appointment of a new chief.

It also said the Council Secretary of Arak Chiefdom, Mr Gomna Ahmadu, will oversee the affairs of the chiefdom and initiate the process for the appointment of a new chief.
