Ekiti Governor Orders Closure Of Filling Stations Hoarding Fuel Over Price Hike

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has warned fuel marketers in the state to sell petrol at the approved price or face the consequences.

He said any filling station that is found to be hoarding fuel, selling above the official price or tampering with their meters will be sealed off indefinitely.

He gave this order on Tuesday at a meeting with the leaders of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), members of the state task force on petroleum product and heads of security agencies in the state.

He said the state task force and the security agencies will start monitoring the filling stations from Wednesday morning to ensure compliance with his directive.

He also said the marketers should cooperate with the state government and wait for further instructions from the federal government on the planned subsidy removal.

He said it was unfair and wicked for some marketers to exploit the people by hoarding fuel or hiking the price before the policy is fully implemented.

He said the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) will meet next week to discuss the issue of subsidy removal and its implications for the states.

He said Ekiti State will not tolerate any attempt by any marketer to inflict hardship on the people through illegal practices.

The marketers apologized for the actions of some of their members and promised to work with the state task force and the state government to ensure that fuel is available and affordable in the state.
