EFCC, Police Clash Over Search Warrant At Adamu’s Residence
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were on Sunday night prevented from entering the residence of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Abdullahi, by police orderlies attached to him.
The EFCC agents had gone to execute a search warrant at Adamu’s house on Ali Akilu Crescent, near Aso Rock Presidential Villa, in Abuja.
According to sources who spoke to Newsflash Nigeria, the EFCC agents arrived around 8:00 p.m. and showed the police officers a warrant duly signed by a judge.
However, the police officers refused to grant them access, saying it was too late for any search operation. They also said they would not allow anyone inside even if they brought the judge that signed the warrant.
The sources said there was tension and a standoff between the EFCC agents and the police officers, who came in four trucks. The EFCC agents spent hours trying to resolve the matter but could not gain entry into the residence.
The sources did not disclose the content of the warrant or the reason for the search, but Adamu had faced corruption allegations in the past that might still be under investigation.
He had also allegedly resigned from his position as APC National Chairman following pressure from some party leaders.
No casualties were reported during the standoff, which one of the sources described as “physically intense”. Spokespersons for the police and the EFCC were not available for comment as of the time of filing this report.
