Ekiti Assembly Crisis: Court grants Aribisogan’s application for substituted service on controversial speaker Adelugba

Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, has granted the application of Rt Hon Olugboyega Aribisogan for substituted service on the controversial Speaker of Ekiti state House of Assembly, Hon Olubunmi Adelugba.

Recall that Hon Aribisogan was purportedly impeached by a few of his colleagues on Monday, November 2022 without any notice and installed Hon Olubunmi Adelugba as Speaker of Ekiti state House of Assembly

Her controversial emergence led to the crisis that has since put a question mark on the legality of the Assembly’s action and proceedings.

Aribisogan said he was not validly impeached and that he remained the substantive Speaker of the Assembly.

He approached the court on November 28, 2022, to challenge his purported Impeachment.

But on Tuesday, January 3, the court granted Aribisogan’s application for substituted service on the Hon Olubunmi Adelugba.

In a motion, exparte brought pursuant to order 39 Rule(1)&(2) order 7 Rules(1),(5)(d(&16(2) of the Ekiti State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2020 Justice Adekunle Adeleye of Ekiti State High Court 5 ruled that the third defendant in the suit no HAD/168/2022 and motion no HAD898m, be served through her constituency office in Emure Ekiti or through the wall of Ekiti State House of Assembly which is her last known address.

The Court further said it will not entertain any frivolous motions on the matter adding that the matter will be heard timeously and expeditiously because of time and the nature of the matter before the court.

The case was adjourned to January 25, for further hearing.

Speaking to newsmen after the ruling today at the court premises in Ado Ekiti, the embattled Speaker, Rt Hon Olugboyega Aribisogan said he did not doubt that justice will prevail.

He said that he was optimistic that the court will right the wrong and restore sanity to the hallowed chambers of the Ekiti state House of Assembly.

” I believe in justice. I have no doubt that justice will prevail on this matter.

Those who desecrated the hallowed chambers of Ekiti Assembly and who still dare dance around shamelessly will soon have their day in court. Sanity will soon return the Assembly” he said.
