EFCC Grills Ex-CBN Governor Emefiele After DSS Release
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is in hot water as he is being grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure at the helm of the apex bank.
Emefiele was whisked away by the EFCC operatives on Thursday night, shortly after he was released by the Department of State Services (DSS), Punch reports.
A source close to the EFCC told Punch that Emefiele is being questioned at the EFCC National Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, over various allegations of impropriety, including misappropriation of funds.
The source said, “Emefiele is in our custody; he was arrested last night soon after the DSS let him go.
“He’s being interrogated at the Headquarters, as he’s facing investigation for alleged financial misconduct among other things during his term as CBN governor.”
The source also hinted that the EFCC may file fresh charges against Emefiele based on the outcome of the investigation.
