Drama as family protests over removal of late mother’s body parts in Ibadan hospital

There was mild drama at the Ibadan Central hospital in Oyo state on Monday, October 31 following allegations that some parts of a corpse of a 91-year-old woman who passed away in the hospital were mutilated.

The family, during a protest on Monday, accused the authorities of Ibadan Central Hospital of tampering and cutting off the flesh of their family member, an elderly woman who died in the hospital on Sunday.

According to reports, the deceased identified as Rachel Oshuntolu was admitted to the hospital over a week ago. She however passed away on Sunday morning, October 30.

Some children of the nonagenarian explained that they left the hospital at around 8 pm on Sunday with the plan of taking the corpse to a morgue this morning.

They said they were all surprised when they saw sprinkles of blood on the floor of the room where the corpse was kept, while some pounds of flesh on the woman’s forehead and arm had been removed.

Our correspondent gathered that one of the deceased’s sons arrived at the hospital around 5:00 am to convey the corpse before discovering the body had been tampered with.

He alleged that flesh in her hand, head and some areas in the body had been cut off.

He then raised the alarm that attracted other family members and members of the public.

This prompted other residents of the area to join the protest.

Reacting to the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Adewale Osifeso said he was yet to be briefed on the issue.

However, the divisional police officer of Iyaganku and his team were on the ground to prevent the breakdown of law and order.
