Crossdressers in Trouble: Court sentences Eight to Three Months in Jail
Eight crossdressers have been sentenced to three months in jail and ten lashes each by a Sharia Court of the Kano Hisbah Board for wearing female clothes and dancing like women in public.
The court had already executed the flogging of the convicts in front of the Hisbah Board’s premises on Tuesday, in accordance with Islamic laws.
The crossdressers were arrested at a wedding party of one of their leaders in Kano, where they caused a public outrage with their indecent dresses and behaviour.
The Presiding Sharia Court Judge, Mallam Sani Tamim Sani Hausawa, found them guilty of all the charges after reading out the relevant laws to them. He gave them the option of paying N10,000 each as fines or serving three months in prison.
The convicts admitted their offences and begged for mercy, promising not to repeat the crime.
The state acting Commander of the Hisbah Board, Mujahideen Aminu Abubakar, commended the Judge and vowed to continue the crusade against indecency in the state.
