Charles III takes oaths to succeed his mother Queen Elizabeth
Charles III, 73, on Saturday, September 10, 2022, took an oath to officially become the King of the United Kingdom.
Recall that Britain’s long-reigned monarch, Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
The Accession Council immediately declared Charles the next king of England.
Newsflash Nigeria understands that an elaborate ceremony was held today at St James’ Palace, London as Charles assumed the royal position following the demise of his mother.
The event today’s reports said was attended by over 200 people who gathered in the room and cheered ‘God save the King’ before documents were signed.
BBC reports that flags that were lowered in mourning in honour of the late Queen will fly full-mast for a short time after the swearing-in today.
Late Queen Elizabeth enjoyed over three decades of reign and passed out at the age of 96.
In his first statement on Thursday after the announcement of the death of his mother, Charles III said the Queen’s lifestyle and three decades of reign shaped their lives and made them who they are today.
He said: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of great sadness for me and all members of my family.”
Charles said he understands that her death will be deeply felt throughout the country, kingdoms and commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
He said that during the time of grief and change, he and his family would be “comforted and supported by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection enjoyed by the Queen”.
