Buhari not protecting Nigerians – Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose has said that President Muhammadu Buhari should stop the barefaced deceit that he was seeking re-election to protect Nigerians, declaring that; “Rather than protect Nigerians, the President has only used the power he holds in trust for the people to oppress, victimise, and destroy the very same people.”

The governor lamented that Nigeria was drifting as a result of “President Buhari’s mindless tribalism and nepotism, which has polarised our people like never before.”

The President had said while submitting his Expression of Interest and Nomination Form at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja that he was seeking reelection to protect Nigerians and that every hand must be on deck not to allow those that had held sway from 1999 to 2015 to come back to power.

Reacting in a statement issued on Ado Ekiti on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Governor Fayose said; “the only protection Nigerians need from Buhari at this point in time is an exit from the Presidential villa for a competent President to run the affairs of the country.”

The governor described the human rights abuses going on under administration of President Buhari as second to none since the current democratic experiment began in 1999.

He said “killings under his watch is unprecedented in the history of peace-time Nigeria.

“The economy, which was the largest and best in Africa and one of the fastest growing in the world, is now in shambles due to his pig-headed policies and pussy-footing when prompt and appropriate decisions were needed to be taken.

“Talk of the joblessness, hopelessness, and depression that pervades the nation. Or the oppression, repression and suffering that are now the order of the day under Buhari.

“Obviously, in free and fair elections, a legacy handed over to Buhari, which he has now deliberately destroyed, there is no way the president or his party can return to power.”

Governor Fayose described the President’s refusal to sign into law amendments to the Electoral Law as insensitivity carried to the ridiculous levels, saying; “it can only be out of selfish reasons and cold-blooded calculations to despotically cling to power that the president had repeatedly refused to sign into law amendments to the Electoral law in an election in which he intends to be a participant.”

The governor added that “should the president be upright and honest enough to draw a graph between 2015 and now, he will see how absymally he has fallen in the people’s estimation as a result of his dismal and abject performance in office.

“And should he be forthright enough to commission an independent and objective survey of the current level of his goodwill, he will just go back home and rest.

“If anything, there is little or nothing left of the huge goodwill that brought Buhari into office. He has frittered it all.”
