Raymond Anthony Dokpesi, the media entrepreneur who founded DAAR Communications and launched Africa Independent Television (AIT), has died on Monday afternoon.
He was 71 years old.
Dokpesi was born on 25 October 1951 in Ibadan and hailed from Agenebode, Edo state. He had six sisters and siblings.
He ventured into the Nigerian mass media industry with his company DAAR Communications and established AIT, the first privately owned television network in Nigeria.
He was also a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and served as the organising committee chairman of the party’s national conference in 2015. He was facing a trial on corruption charges as of March 2020. He recovered from COVID-19 in May 2020.
