BREAKING: Bola Tinubu Sworn in as Nigeria’s New President
Nigeria has ushered in a new era of leadership as Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, took the oath of office as the country’s president on Monday, May 29.
Tinubu, 71, emerged victorious in the presidential election that was held in February after a fierce campaign that saw him face off against several contenders.
He was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the nation’s capital. His running mate, Kashim Shettima, also took the oath of office as the vice president.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by dignitaries from within and outside the country, including Tinubu’s predecessors Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, who congratulated him on his victory.
Tinubu’s wife, Remi; Shettima’s wife, Nana; and Buhari’s wife, Aisha were among the prominent women who witnessed the historic event.
Several African leaders also graced the occasion with their presence. They included the Prime Minister of Gabon, Billy By-Nze; the President of Cote D’Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara; the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo; and the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.
Some of the notable personalities from the business sector who attended the ceremony were Akinwumi Adesina, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, and Jim Ovia.
The inauguration was also witnessed by service chiefs, heads of security agencies, governors, former governors, serving and former ministers as well as chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu’s party.
Tinubu is expected to deliver his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office.
