BREAKING: 344 Kankara Schoolboys released – Nigerian govt
Few hours after Boko Haram released a video showing the abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina state, the Nigerian government has announced the release of the 344 abducted schoolboys.
Abdul Labaran, the Director General, Media to the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, confirmed the release of the students to newsmen.
Labaran said the children were being transported from the bush where the bandits released them.
Recalled that NIDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Arewa disclosed this on her official Twitter page on Thursday afternoon.
She, however, did not give details of their release.
Her tweet read: “Yaay, the 333 boys captured in katsina have been rescued. Alhamdulillah!
“Buhari administration has brought back our boys. BringBackOurBoys. Our boys are back.”
ARISE Television also confirm that the children are currently being escorted by Nigerian security forces to the state capital Katsina where they will be received by the state Governor Aminu Bello Masari.
A top Katsina State government official who spoke exclusively to Arise News a few minutes ago, said all the students were alive and will be reunited with their parents Thursday.
Recall that Boko Haram leader, Shekau claimed responsibility for the kidnap of the school boys.
Boko Haram released a video showing the abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina state.
Over 300 students were abducted last Friday when gunmen invaded the school.
Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram, had on Tuesday said his group was responsible for the attack.
In a new video released on Thursday by the insurgents, some of the boys, looking unkempt, appealed to the government to cooperate with their abductors so they can be freed.
“Please help us. Tell the vigilantes and soldiers not to come around,” one of the boys in the video said.
He also said there are “more than 500 of them in the forest”.
