The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) says the North is ready to accept the outcome of the 2023 general elections if it is free and fair.
The Convener of the Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, however, maintained that Northern Nigeria would resist any attempt to undermine the forthcoming general elections.
He made the assertions at the 10th anniversary and general assembly of the NEF in Abuja.
Prof Ango said Northern Nigeria has no reason whatsoever not to accept the outcome of the elections once due process is strictly applied based on the electoral guidelines.
Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the spokesman of the forum said, “The forum has sent a clear message that the north can speak with one voice without intimidation considering the number of groups that attended the gathering.”
Other dignitaries at the event who spoke on the challenges confronting the region and nation at large were Governor Bala Mohammed, Prof. Idris Bugaje, the LP presidential running mate, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed and the representative of the Senate President.
The NEF did not endorse any candidate but noted that if there was the need to do so, it will come up with a position before the elections.
