The Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, has geared towards taking over from President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 as his posters are already circulating on social media for second term.

Fayemi is one of the founders of the All Progressive Congress, APC and a key power-broker in the party and the south-west more broadly.
One of the APC social media supporters and the ally of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Zara Onyinye posted Fayemi’s poster on her Facebook timeline mocking him for showing interest to contest 2023 presidential race.

On December 19, 2020, the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) had asked Governor Kayode Fayemi, to run for the office of the president in the 2023 election.
The state party said the time has come for the president to come from Ekiti State, adding that “it would no longer play second fiddle in the south-west’s politics”.
Paul Omotoso, the state caretaker chairman, said the party will force the governor into the presidential race because of his competence and loyalty to the ruling party.
Omotoso, who was represented by Ade Ajayi, the state publicity secretary, said this during a programme organised by Olusegun Osinkolu, a chieftain of the APC, for 1,000 members of the party in Ekiti north senatorial district, on Saturday.
He said the time has come for the president to come from Ekiti, adding that “it would no longer play second fiddle in the south-west’s politics”.
“On the 2023 presidency, the time has come for president to come from Ekiti. That is why we are pleading with you to support governor Fayemi,” he said.
“Though governor Fayemi has never said he wanted to contest, we will force him to plunge into the race, because of his competence, dedication, and loyalty to APC.”
On January 17, the Caretaker Zonal Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in South-West, Hon Karounwi Oladapo, had said the odds clearly favour the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly said the National Leader of the party; Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is too old to contest for the presidency and will be above 70 years by 2023.
He explained that Nigerians cannot tolerate 70 years plus as president after President Buhari.
