Xenophobia: Nigerians React As Fayemi, El-rufai Attends Economic Summit In South Africa

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and Governor Nasir Elrufai of Kadunna State have come under heavy attack for attending the ongoing World Economic summit in South Africa despite the earlier report that The Nigerian Government has boycotted the summit over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in the country.

Meanwhile, African countries like Rwanda, Malawi and DR Congo, boycotted the two-day summit holding in Cape Town following the attack on foreigners in South Africa.

Apart from the two Governors, The Emir of Kano, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Amina Jane Mohammed, who is the current Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations were also spotted at the event.

A former minister of education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, was subjected to intense criticisms by Nigerians for attending the conference on Wednesday, September 4.

Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, chided Ezekwesili for attending the event, adding that, “we all thought you would sympathize with them and boycott the WEF.”

It is not clear if Ahmad knew President Muhammadu Buhari’s close associates were in South Africa at the time he tweeted.
