Workers Day: Fayose Promotes 40,100 Workers As Promised Not Leave The State In Debt
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has announced the promotion of 40,100 workers. Amongst the promoted workers were: 11,718 Civil Servants, 1,429 Health Management Board staff, 9,476 Staff of the Teaching Service Commission, 857 Parastatals staff, 6,739 State Universal Basic Education Board Staff and 6,913 staff of the Local Government Service Commission.
This covers three years promotion arrears in the civil service between 2015 to 2017.
The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the state, Comrade Raymond Adesanmi, said Civil servants in Ekiti State have demanded the payment of outstanding salaries.He made the remarks at the 2018 May Day celebration held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday.
He lamented that workers in the state were hungry, calling on the governor to pay outstanding salaries owed the workers.
According to him, the government is owing civil servants five months while local government workers are being owed eight months and six months for those in higher institution
Adesanmi also called on the governor to pay gratuity and pensions for all the senior citizens that are affected.
The governor, in his speech, asked workers to challenge the federal government not to oppress Ekiti State in the scheme of things, saying the FG is seating on the Commonwealth of the state.
He said “Every state is supposed to get its own share of the extra dollars on the sales of oil in the country, but the FG is not giving the state its due allocation”
Promising the workers that he would not leave the state in debt, promising that he would pay them all the salary arrears before the end of his tenure.
“Your interest would be my priority until my last day in office; I would not leave the state as a debtor governor in Ekiti. ”
At the celebration which was sparsely attended by the workers, Fayose introduced his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, as his anointed successor urging the workers to vote for him at the next election.
The governor said: “Prof. Kolapo Olusola, is the man to be Governor of Ekiti State, the man to take over from him”
The Head of Service, Dr Gbenga Faseluka, called on the workers to shun partisan politics, but he encouraged them to participate in voting during the next election in Ekiti.
Faseluka called on the workers to be diligent, loyal and responsive in their duties to the state, as he congratulated the workers on another workers day.
