A 45-year-old woman, Victoria Modupe, was dragged before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday for allegedly defrauding an event centre owner of N2.4 million.
The defendant, who had no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, the defendant collected the money from the complainant, Momoh Musa, on Feb.13, at about 8:00 am at Pota Community, along Mowo Ikoga Road, Badagry, Lagos.
She claimed that she would help him to make and install interlocking stones at his event centre, but she failed to deliver on her promise.
The prosecutor said that the defendant’s action violated the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must be residents of Lagos State and must have verifiable jobs in reputable organisations or government agencies.
He adjourned the case till Oct.19, for further hearing.
