Wife attacks husband with hot oil and hammer over sister-in-law

A man from Okehi community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State has suffered severe burns and injuries after his wife allegedly poured hot groundnut oil on him and hit him with a hammer.

The reason for the attack was said to be a disagreement over the wife’s younger sister, who lived with them and was disrespectful to the husband.

The victim, Ekelediri Nwankwo, told newsmen on Wednesday that he had decided to send his sister-in-law away and gave her some money to return home, but his wife opposed his decision and became violent. He also said he had noticed a strange man hanging around his wife and sister-in-law, and when he confronted his wife about it, she did not give him a satisfactory answer.

Nwankwo said he was asleep when his wife attacked him with the hot oil and the hammer, leaving him with serious wounds. He said he managed to escape and reported the incident to the Igwuruta Police State Station.

“I told my wife’s younger sister to leave my house because of the way she started dressing.

“Her behaviour and the way she occupied my matrimonial bed even when I was around were unacceptable. And no young guy will tolerate such behavior. But my wife refused the younger sister to leave the house.

“I also saw my wife alone with one tall black guy in the shop I rented for her. Not that he is in for business. He followed my wife and her sister here and there.

“So, with all this, I gave her younger sister two thousand naira transport to go home so that I can actually understand what is going on in my house, but my wife got upset, while I went to bed to sleep, she used boiled groundnut oil on me, then started hitting me with a harmer.”

The spokesperson for the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and said the police were on the trail of the suspect, who had fled after the attack. She said the police would ensure that the suspect was arrested and prosecuted.

”I can confirm the incident. The matter was incidented at the Igwuruta Police State Station. The woman has fled but we are on her train to ensure her arrest and make her face the law.”
